Last week, Ashin Issariya added his name to the letter to the Myanmar State Sangha, urging them to condemn the violence against the Rohingya people. Ashin Issariya, also known as “King Zero,” was a prominent organizer during Myanmar’s “Saffron Revolution,” and we are honored to stand in solidarity with him.
Ashin Issariya learned about our efforts through Larry Steele of the Shambhala Seattle Center. Steele recently visited Ashin Issariya at Wimoteti Thuka Monastery in Myanmar (pictured right), and has written a two-part article for the Shambhala Times about the visit: part one and part two.
“The Buddhist monk Ashin Issariya is working to create an enlightened society in the confused and violent land of Myanmar,” writes Steele. “Ashin Issariya has a Dharma teaching for Myanmar’s too-powerful generals: ‘Always check what your mind is thinking,’ Issariya says. ‘If your thinking is the wrong way, please stop it.'”
We are grateful to Ashin Issariya and Larry Steele for their support; may our combined efforts continue to bear fruit.
