What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

When you submit a message via our contact form, you provide your name and email address. If requested by you, we will add your email address to our mailing list; you can request to be removed from our mailing list at any time. If your comment requires a response, we may also use your email address to reply. We do not share your name or email address with anyone.

Signatures provided on the “Sign the letter” page

When you sign the letter to the Myanmar State Sangha (located on the Sign the Letter page), we must provide your name, email address and country. You may optionally provide your religious tradition or affiliation, write a comment or message, or agree to receive updates from our mailing list or request additional information about supporting Rohingya refugees. Once you have publicly signed the letter to the Myanmar State Sanga, we will publicly display your name, country, as well as your tradition or affiliation, if provided. Your email address is required for verification purposes only, unless you specifically request to receive further emails from us (via our mailing lists, a message in the comments, etc.) If you submit an additional message or comment in the applicable field while signing the letter, we may also share this with others, for instance, when forwarding the publicly signed letter on to the Myanmar State Sangha.

Cookies and Analytics

We may collect information as you navigate through the site, or if you choose to complete forms on the Site where information is requested. We use Google Analytics to collect aggregate user information. (To opt out of Google Analytics tracking for certain browsers, visit Google Analytics.) We use JetPack for necessary site functionality and optimizing user experience. We do not share user information with any third parties.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with & where we send your data

We do not share any data except the data you have explicitly asked us to share. In other words, the only personal data we share with others is data you have requested us to share: if you choose to “Sign the Letter” to the Myanmar State Sangha, we publicly share your name and country as well as tradition/affiliation. If you submit an additional comment or message when signing the letter, we may also share this. Since the letter is a public document, it may be shared with a number of different recipients, including but not limited to the Myanmar State Sangha.

How long we retain your data

If you leave sign the letter or use one of our contact forms, any associated data or metadata is retained indefinitely.

What rights you have over your data

You can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you — for instance, you may request to have your name/signature removed from the letter to the Myanmar State Sangha. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
