Dear Friends,
As the new year approaches, we hope you will respond to this fundraising effort. We thank you for your generosity in the past.
At the Buddhist Humanitarian Project and Clear View we remain attuned to the needs and issues of Rohingya people, brutally driven into Bangladesh and other countries from their burned-out homes in Myanmar. Their future residence and lives in Bangladesh, Burma, and elsewhere remain uncertain and vulnerable. As we work through respected international and grassroots organizations on the ground in Bangladesh—organizations adhering to principles of fiscal responsibility and transparency—Buddhist Humanitarian Project has raised more than $35,000 for direct Rohingya relief. Funds continue to come in. Your contributions here will add to this total, providing medicine, clothing, and education in the sprawling, dusty refugee camps.
We don’t know what the future holds for the Rohingya. Return to Myanmar seems a distant dream. It is not impossible, but the political and social climate of Myanmar would need to be radically transformed for that to happen. Bangladesh itself is facing an election this coming Sunday, and what the future holds for the Rohingya in Bangladesh is far from certain. The present government, although opening the borders to those fleeing from Myanmar, has not allowed them legal refugee status, which comes with certain legal entitlements including rights to work and education. For now, the Rohingya are confined to their camps, living in barest of shelters, with no livelihood or future.
So please give generously and help us show the world that we are watching and caring for sisters and brothers in their quest for safety and freedom.
Sincerely, in peace,
Hozan Alan Senauke
