On July 3rd, the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA), Progressive Voice (PV) and Myanmar Alliance for Transparency and Accountability (MATA) issued a joint statement “call[ing] on the international community to expedite the full operationalisation of the independent investigative mechanism for Myanmar (IIM) established by the UN Human Rights Council (Council) in September 2018.”
The statement follows recent remarks from the UN Special Rapporteur, which expressed concern about the stalled progress since the Human Rights Council’s report in September 2018. The statement also addresses the current situation in Myanmar, including political and economic factors contributing to the violence and crisis.

Passing the Microphone to the Rohingya
BRAC, one of the organizations we support on the ground in Bangladesh, partnered with the WFP Storytellers to develop a program where Rohingya refugees living in Cox’s Bazaar refugee camps can tell their story, “in their own voices, not filtered through an outside editorial agenda but directly to the world via social media.” A recent post from the BRAC blog highlights this wonder project. We encourage you to share these stories widely, and thank you for supporting the refugees.
